I can try to clarify certain issues and give you my opinion for what it's worth.

Of course the big breakthrough that is revolutionizing the treatment of arthritis and other types of inflammatory aches are the selective Cox 2 inhibitors. I don't think anyone can debate that.
These are safer but not more effective than what we are currently using. Celebrax did not even get the "pain" indication it was looking for from the FDA.

Who would use Pennsaid?
Many people that tolerate the old NSAIDs still prefer to use topical products. Either they find them more effective or they "don't like to take pills". Often patients will have only one or two painful joints and would prefer a local treatment. I find many who just like the idea of "puttin sav on it" ( I worked in the beautiful state of Mississippi for a few years and boy that SAV cured a lot of things)and that market is huge...
We are also witnessing a rapidly growing interest in alternative medicine and for these people Pennsaid would I think be an acceptable compromise.
Pennsaid works and if the marketing is done right, it will often come to mind as a therapeutic option for both physicians and patients.

Pennsaid drops are applied at the site of pain 4 times a day. The patient is instructed to use 10 to 40 drops at a time depending on the size of the joint then spread the lotion. Many patients find that using it less often works just as well. So to answer your Q about how long will a bottle last, this will vary enormously from one case to an other but the average would be about one month.

My 2 cents
What do others think?

Bonne nuit tout le monde,

Pierre
