Dear Larry:

I read Mr Champion's home page as well as his commentary on the Desert Dirts with great interest.

He is apparently convinced that he can transmute base metals into gold by the use of "low level nuclear reactions."

He is also, apparently, convinced that all the unconventional techniques used to obtain gold from these complex ore bodies result in a kind of inadvertent "low level nuclear reaction" in which the gold is not recovered but actually created.

In a country the size of the United States, there are bound to be a large number of cranks, some of whom will be truly sincere, and many of whom are intelligent enough to publish on the Internet. I note that Mr Champion is a member of the "Tesla Society," which, although I acknowledge that Tesla was an under-recognized genius, attracts nutballs like sugar draws ants.

With good wishes to all,

Pal Halliday
