SF, Thanks for posting the news on Dell. Sometimes I wonder where analysts get the info for some of their assumptions -- i.e., expecting PC sales to be down during the second half because everyone is focused on fixing existing hardware for Y2K -- duh!! -- If the PC doesn't work for Y2K, ya gotta buy a new one!

FWIW, I work for a very large company, and our technicians (employees and contractors) have been routinely fixing PCs in the past -- as part of our support structure. Most recent analysis indicates that it is less expensive to "replace". There is a number of times a pair of hands touches the hardware that no longer makes it worthwhile to touch it again -- support costs are actually reduced and offset by replacing PCs -- plus functionality is upgraded for the cost.
