It's a done deal, and it could be up to 6.9 million shares:

Judging by Friday's and Monday's price of MIPS, some of the .9 million could have gone already. The slump in SGI's price during the same time could be due to disappointment that the MIPS offering didn't go closer to $40.

The Journal article also said SGI would divest itself completely by September. If correct, that would imply a distribution of MIPS shares to SGI shareholders at a rate of nearly 1/7, or $5 at current price. But this SEC filing refers to divestiture prior to September, 2000, by multiple possible means:
