Company Press Release
3Com Selects Horizon Live Distance Learning to Train Its Customer Service Representatives
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 1999--Horizon Live Distance Learning Inc., a leader in interactive group learning, today announced that global networking leader 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS - news) selected Horizon's Live Distance Learning technology to train and communicate with its call center agents.

3Com has 500 call center agents in 14 call centers worldwide. With Horizon Live technology, 3Com can easily disseminate information to agents, regarding new technology, products and procedures.

In order to maintain the highest standard of customer service, 3Com must ensure that their Call Center agents possess up-to-date information. 3Com will use Horizon to meet tight training deadlines and last minute logistics issues. 3Com will save hundreds of thousand of dollars in training their employees because they will no longer need to transport and house their employees to attend classes in their training center - 3Com will use Horizon and connect via the Internet for live audio and video meetings.

''Because we no longer need to bring the students to our training center, we can actually deliver focused training sessions in a timely fashion.'' said Dan Bell, Vice President, Consumer CSO, Global Customer Service. ''With Horizon we are able to move away from the traditional face to face training without losing the student-to-trainer relationship that is so important in an effective training program. This software enables our agents to be updated on the fly, with minimal time away from their jobs.''

''3Com's use of Horizon will allow it to dramatically improve the speed and quality of information transfer to Call Center customer support staff,'' said Bob Clyatt, Chief Executive Officer, Horizon Live Distance Learning, Inc. ''This is a powerful new way to improve business processes, the key to transforming an organization's effectiveness and ability to serve clients. We are proud that 3Com has chosen Horizon as one of its tools to transform these vital business processes,'' Clyatt added.

How Horizon Live Distance Learning Works

Horizon's intuitive design blends the best of classroom and computer-based training in an easy-to-use classroom atmosphere - live over the Internet. Running entirely within a standard Web browser over a standard Internet connection, the Horizon system allows organizations to train clients and staff, as well as to hold meetings on-demand around the globe in a cost effective and timely manner. An instructor or host leading a classroom discussion can speak naturally to participants by using live audio and video, while displaying content materials on each participant's computer screen.

Participants receive and review materials such as slides, which can be in any Web-ready format, and quiz material in real time. Users can talk to each other and to the instructor by simply typing in questions and responses. A specialized private message option allows for sidebar conversation among participants. Sessions can be recorded for later use by individuals who missed the live event, or who just want to review classroom notes. Horizon incorporates Real Network's streaming audio and video as well as a proprietary Firewall Friendly(TM) messaging system which enables organizations to deliver classes through most corporate firewalls using their existing Intranet.

Live class demonstrations are offered at the Horizon Web site at www.horizonlive.com every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, or by request. To pilot Horizon products and services, interested organizations should call Horizon Live Distance Learning at 212-533-1775 or visit the company's Web site to learn more about the product.
