Have you tried the Smart and Friendly 4x media with the Yamaha yet? I'm hoping that 4x works fine with this combo. Generally, and experiences you have with media would be much appreciated. I have a bunch of Maxell garden variety CD-R media that I'm hoping will do 2x OK. Also, did you happen to notice when your drive was manufactured? I gather from quick usenet checks that there's at least an October 98 date and a March 99 date, and that the latter is noticably more stable. I would think all the ones in buy.com's latest shipment will be the latter date at least. With you, me, and ZP on this, we should have a fairly robust set of experiences before long. Hopefully other participants of the thread will also take the plunge and contribute. (As I recall, Sean's still using the 6x4x2 yamaha?) (Yes, the case made my shipping jump, but only about $12. My experimenting suggests that up to a certain point, marginal shipping drops sharply. Then once a certain weight is hit, it immediately jumps from $20s to $40s.)
