Bob,
On a more serious note, most higher value diamonds are cut by computer operated machines......the cheap stuff gets sent to India....there are an estimated 1.5 million cutters over there.....there simply are not near enough people in the NWT with the eye sight, skill, inclination and staying power etc....to develope a large cutting industry in Yellowknife. Besides, they could never compete with the pay scale in India....If the government insists on cutting low value, low margin goods in the NWT, they will simply ensure that some deposits don't ever get developed....The great aspect of forming a government is that extortion through the threat and implimentation of ever higher taxes is legal, otherwise it is criminal in mentality and in law.....
regards,
teevee
