Normally if a stock has a large Short position I look for the support areas below the current price... As the stock falls to those support areas people begin to cover their positions... That's usually a good place to take a position... If a stock is really hot, like AMZN or CMGI, it could go a long time to the upside... This frustrates many shorts who throw in towel... Their short covering adds fuel to the fire and keeps the price rising... Above it all, the more you know about the company the better if you are an investor or position trader... That will give you the edge over the strictly momentum traders that don't know anything about the companies they Gamble on...

As for getting tips from waiters; as long as your own due diligence is factored in, no problem... : >
