Music Web Site Wages Challenge to MP3.com; Receives Support From Major Artists

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 1999--In an aggressive
move, StreamlineMusic.com Tuesday launched a new business model that
will, by all indications, offer the industry giant MP3.com a sure-fire
run for its money.
Murphy Karges, from the platinum-selling band Sugar Ray,
commented, "StreamlineMusic.com will be a great collecting place for
the music industry. This is the way music technology is going."
StreamlineMusic.com markets and distributes music, giving 100
percent of the profit from sales to the artist or record label. The
company will generate its own revenue via advertising sales and
sponsorship.
"Sites like MP3.com and others that claim to be doing something
'revolutionary' take 50 percent or more of a sale for really doing
nothing more than providing a little server space," said Ruben Lozano,
president of StreamlineMusic.com.
"At StreamlineMusic,.com artists and labels retain 100 percent of
what is rightfully theirs. Now that's revolutionary."

The concept, birthed by Lozano, was hatched as a result of his
love of music and searching for a better way of distributing it to the
market that benefits all parties involved.
Artists and record companies have complete control over the
pricing of any products they sell through StreamlineMusic.com and the
format in which it is distributed. Until now, record labels have been
reluctant, at best, to dive headlong into downloadable music sales for
fear of piracy. However, new formats such as Liquid Audio, AT&T Lab's
a2b music, and Microsoft's MS Audio 4.0 now offer them secure means of
distribution.
Products can be sold in the form of downloadable files, or even a
physical CD. The company will warehouse and ship CDs as part of its
service. However, a large portion of the music on StreamlineMusic.com
will be free to all music fans.
The company is inviting artists, labels, and music fans to
register at its Web site, streamlinemusic.com. Artists and labels can
sign up and receive a free Web page to promote their music, free music
download hosting and streaming, and product fulfillment support. The
company expects to be in full swing by July 4, 1999.
