I found this very interesting post on AOL's ECGOF boards, it might shed some light on the stocks lack of performance.
"Subj: American ECOLOGY Corporation Date: Sun, 9 Mar 1997 01:38:35 EST From: ArtPhilly Message-ID: <19970309063801.BAA05440@ladder01.news.aol.com>
Read through the graveyards. Saw a couple of messages mentioning nuclear waste sites and toxic waste management. Posters were usually smacked up side the head with "Learn the basics about the company" or some such friendly remark.
Maybe inaccurate information on Hoovers has something to do with the idea that American Eco deals in such nasty stuff.
Go to Hoovers. Search on American Eco. "American Ecology Corp" pops up. Close enough, right, so select it. Not close at all.
According to Hoovers: American Ecology Corp. provides processing, packaging, transportation, remediation, and disposal services for generators of hazardous waste and low-level radioactive waste. Waste management services include stabilization, solid waste disposal, aqueous waste disposal, fuels blending, and solvent recovery. American Ecology also operates 2 of the 18 commercial hazardous waste landfill disposal sites in the US and one of the nation's 9 commercial deepwell disposal facilities, where liquid wastes are stabilized by mixing the sludge and wet wastes with cement, lime, and other stabilizing agents to prevent leaching. The company markets to nuclear power facilities, hospitals, laboratories, and various industries.
All very necessary, but not the company I bought into. Even more unfortunate than the similarity in names, Hoovers goes on to (incorrectly) list the corporate offices and officers of American Ecology Corp:
Address: 1325 S. Creek Dr., Ste. 100 Houston, TX 77084 Phone: 713-647-0505 Fax: 713-647-0080 Web Site:-- CEO: Michael E. McGinnis CFO: John D. Walker HR: Cliff Wright
E-mailed Hoovers Editorial Department a week ago Friday and asked them to investigate the possibility that they had made an error. Got a nice form e-mail back, but no correction has been made to date.
Also e-mailed Todd to see if he would have any better luck.
I wish us all better luck as American Eco's stock price struggles to match its business potential. Thanks for all of the information you've given and wisdom you've shared in the previous thousands of posts.
