I thing you are wrong here.

I suspect that the next generation of game consoles are adequate for most home apps.

Running Linux should allow home users to do pretty much everything their PC does.

This is a big threat and it will come down to wether easy to use apps become available under Linux. Today the answer is no. I suspect a few years from now there will be a large range of easy to use packages available.

And because the console vendors can afford to sell the consoles at below costs due to game revenues this will be a major factor IMHO.

I would suggest that Intel look at buying sega or nintendo as sony is likely to be too expensive.
