I don't think we need better results. If my portfolio consisted entirely of multi-billion dollar companies growing earnings and revenues at a rate of over 40% per year, I could hardly wish for more.
And I certainly don't think we need to associate DELL with spin of any type. Spin is a deliberate distortion or presentation of the facts to impart a particular slant, and IMO the connotation is very negative. A perceptive audience realizes that. For me, one of the strongest positives about DELL is a superb management team which shoots straight, and tells it like it is.
As for those who talk about starting a 'class-action' suit against DELL for misleading the shareholders.... in the words of General Colin Powell, "bovine scatology!!" Sometimes we on this thread tend to behave like cheerleaders, imparting OUR OWN SPIN to events and announcements. When we fall victim to OUR OWN HYPE, we should acknowledge our own responsibility and not try to claim that the management was at fault. I do not know of one instance since becoming a DELL shareholder in Spring of 1996 that any member of the management team has by act or word mislead the investing public.
Read Michael's book. TRUST is an extremely important factor in DELL's relations with its corporate partners AND with its shareholders.
Bottom Line: If you are willing to own a company which is expected to grow at several times the industry rate of ~15% for the next several years, hold. If not, sell.
