David R: If I never responded to your question it is only because I did not think you were being sincere when you asked it - based on the other 90% of the comments made in your earlier posts to me.
Maybe I'm just being naive now. But your more recent posts appear to be sincere, and to also reflect a willingness to forget the ugliness between us in prior exchanges - thus I will answer it.
However, please keep in mind that whether my answer pleases you and the thread or not, and whether it changes your opinion of my credibility or not is really quite irrelevant to me. I choose to answer your question honestly just to show you that I too am being very sincere in all my posts - whether time proves me right or wrong being a risk I also choose to take!
No, I do not currently hold a position in Borland one way or the other. Yes, I am considering shorting Borland when it is possible for me to do so because I just don't see anything happening within the next 2-3 months that could propel it higher than it already is; and therefore it can only go down IMHO. To expect it to remain at ~$8 for two entire quarters is as unrealistic as it is to expect it to climb much higher in the short term.
Am I 100% convinced of that? No, or I would not have bothered to post my opinions before making a decision - let's call it testing the waters if you will! And here is why I did it, with the exception of "Who-the-hell-is-Rod?!" (Whom I too have trouble following some times!), everyone on this thread seems so gunho about BORL that I wanted to motivate the lurkers who might agree with me to also post their opinions - let's call it confirmation of my analysis if you will!
But it hasn't happened and that could mean two things. One, everyone is equally bullish on BORL (which I have trouble believing!). Or two, those who agree with me are so intimidated by the way you all gang-up on those spousing dissenting opinions that they choose to safely lurk instead! Have you considered this possibility?
It is not good - if not dangerous - when all agree with you on any given thread David. What are you getting from the tread then? The satisfaction of letting your opinions be heard and nothing else at least IMHO....
I too happen to believe that Borland could be a very good long term value play if in fact 2Q (1Q is too soon IMHO!) reflects the sales that you would have to believe (as some of you already do apparently!) will take place based on the reviews the company has been getting in the trade press lately.
But there is no guarantee that it will happen because Borland's technology is only playing catch-up as far as I can tell. And yet, Borland does have a strategic advantage in the sense that it has a throng of loyal programmers/developers who have cut their teeth on its products and are apparently willing to swear by the company.
That is why I follow this thread. I don't want to miss the opportunity to get on the band-wagon when the time comes - if ever! But, in the meantime, why not maximize returns and hedge my CNTR holdings at the same time by shorting BORL?
OK, I've answered it. You may all critique my post as much as you want - just keep it objective and polite if you want me to do the same!
