I'm no communications expert, but I've been a user of technology ...

The new Pentium Pro boxes lowered the pricing points of the older Pentium machines, spurring demand. Now, families can buy loaded Pentiums 133 MH for less than $2000. Demand for ISDN is lowering the pricing points for the 28.8 modems. This is now the new household computer modem standard.

30' TV prices have gone down significantly. Now, a lot of households are upgrading their boob tubes.

WHAT IS THE POINT ???

The point is, demand is highest on the 1 to 2 year technology. This is the level where the best buys are. 17" Computer Monitors have come down significantly in price because the new 20" monitors are now within reach.

SOMETIMES, we don't consider these laws of economics. We want to look straight ahead on what will be the technology 5 years from now and putting our money in them right away. Each company, I believe will have its day in the sun. But right now, USRX, Ascend, Shiva and most of the big names in the remote access market are some of the best investments. Telebit is another ISDN play, and might just turn it around this time.

However, this doesn't mean that we should not speculate on this newer technologies. A lot of money can be made here. These stocks are going up not because of fundamentals but more because of low supply for the stock and great demand from all of us who want's some piece of the action. We should discuss these companies too, discuss their technologies but let's not kid ourselves with regards to their fundamentals. Most of them don't have it yet.
