Dylan,
The presenters were clear & concise and the trauma of last year's sales falloff was not glossed over. We were told that a different sales strategy (Vertical rather than simply Geographic oriented) has been put in place, new people hired and that things are going much better this year. There were lots of friendly questions from the audience and the employees I spoke with seemed to be quietly confident about their present outlook and where RSYS is headed.
I asked the CEO what percentage of RSYS' sales is now Telecom based. The answer was 1/3rd and that hopefully by year's end, 1/2 of RSYS' sales will be Telecom related.
10 year veteran employee Thomas Huegel took 8 of us on an excellent post-meeting, hour long factory tour. We learned that RSYS has 2 SMT assembly lines set up and is running them on 10hr x 7day shifts. I was impressed that embedded RSYS boards were installed by the manufacturer to run those SMT assembly lines. The existing RSYS building is capable of holding 6 more SMT lines and we were told that it would take only 12 weeks to add another complete assembly line.
There were no revelations at the meeting but I liked what I saw and now feel even better about RSYS knowing the extent to which it has become a Telecom Equipment manufacturer. It was explained that before the Artic acquisition, RSYS only supplied custom boards to someone else who was manufacturing a finished product. Artic has changed all that.
As I was driving home it occurred to me that whatever equipment the Y2K problem knocks out, RSYS is well positioned to quickly create replacement boards...
