Michael, yes, it is quite wonderful. Benigni's biggest success in this country in one of his own (Italian) movies was called "Johnny Stecchino", about a man mistaken for a mobster whom he resembles. It doesn't have nearly the emotional power, but it has a similar "funnybone". He also played Inspector Clouseau's illegitimate son in a Pink Panther sequel a couple of years ago that didn't do very well. In American films, he is probably best known for a movie by Jim Jarmusch called "Night on Earth", about taxi drivers in various cities and there midnight adventures. Also, he was in a Jarmusch movie called "Down By Law", where he is unjustly incarcerated in Louisiana and participates in a jailbreak. His wife (who also played his on- screen wife in "Life Is Beautiful") was in that film and another Jarmusch flick (my favorite of his) called "Mystery Train". By a series of mishaps, she ends up in a seedy Memphis hotel, and has a visit by the ghost of Elvis....I mention all of these because you might enjoy them, and they are also "Indies", relatively low budget films shot outside of the studios....
