Whew! You are a whirlwind, woman. OK, I understand that you are too busy to do anything about it now.
Well, I once helped put on WorldCon in New Orleans, the World Science Fiction Convention, which had about 5,000 attendees, and everyone said it was me who did most of the work arranging logistics for the convention. Which was nice, because I did, although others did far more work putting it on once it got going.
Here are my thoughts:
I think it should be at a resort, so we can stay in cabins or condos or motel or hotel. I want people to suggest places, like a state park or national park with cabins that are available, or someone suggested Vegas, and I suggested Destin or Seaside.
Considering the quantity of people involved, I think we should start making reservations ASAP, so everyone can stay at the same place, unless we are planning on something urban.
I think we should have it in September, so it won't conflict with family stuff for everyone. I think that way the weather will still be warm enough for outside stuff. I think we should make it a long weekend, that is, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Not Labor Day weekend, so that means:
1. 9/10/99-9/12/99.
2. 9/17/99-9/19/99.
3. 9/24/99-9/26/99.
The sooner we get going, the cheaper reservations will be.
I don't think anyone is going to want to do it if you won't be there. But you don't have to do the heavy lifting of planning. I can handle that. |
