Iran's Khatami wraps up key visit to Saudi Arabia

<< JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia (Reuters) - Iranian President Mohammad Khatami held a final round of talks with Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Wednesday, wrapping up a visit which seemed to put an end to two decades of hostility, political analysts said.

Saudi Arabia and Iran were expected to sign a joint statement during the meeting, but there was no immediate comment from officials. Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said a statement on the visit was to be issued.

Khatami is the highest ranking Iranian official to visit Saudi Arabia since Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution, which led to years of mutual suspicion.

Khatami held talks with King Fahd, the crown prince and other senior officials, discussing cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia to boost the world oil market, Gulf security and bilateral ties.

He was expected to fly to Qatar after departing Saudi Arabia Wednesday. >>

Morning Lorne,

I wonder how long before US-Saudi relations start to cool.
