What happens to shares purchased between the "owners of record" date and the actual split date....?

The way the split announcement is worded, there's a little ambiguity, suggesting that buying now will not give you rights to the split... That can't be so...it would put the issue into ice for a month. Surely not.

Should we assume that no one answers this question because it is too naive? Or does no one have a positive answer?
