Baseball Great Sammy Sosa Goes To Bat For Telemundo

LOS ANGELES, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Homerun hero Sammy Sosa of the Chicago Cubs is the newest player on team Telemundo, signing an exclusive three-year deal as an official spokesman, including on-air endorsements, personal appearances and periodically hosting and guest starring on Telemundo programs, announced Nely Galan, President of Entertainment for Telemundo.
One of baseball's most charismatic champions, Sosa's talent and character have taken him from a small island in the Dominican Republic to the record books as the reigning king of Chicago sports. The first Latino to surpass Roger Maris' 37-year-old homerun record last season, Sosa has since used the spotlight to establish the Sammy Sosa Foundation. Founded in June of 1998 by the Cubs' champion to further the education and health standards of children in his native country, it has since extended its scope to include children in the United States. His good work and good sportsmanship have made him a role model to Latinos and sport's fans the world over.

The Miami-based Telemundo broadcasts in 63 markets and is currently available to an estimated 85 percent of Hispanic viewers. Telemundo plans to add 400,000 Hispanic cable homes over the next two years, boosting Telemundo's reach to an estimated 90 percent of the U.S. Hispanic market. Telemundo Network Group LLC is owned equally by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Liberty Media.
