rudedog: My impression is that The Register relies on Shannon for most of its COMPAQ-related stories. I can get access to "Shannon Knows Compaq" stories that are about two month's old - but for anything else I would need to subscribe. Given the COMPAQ legal demands on Shannon for a disclaimer it looks as though they are uncomfortable with him.

It amazes me that people are generating small businesses peddling specialised knowledge of particular companies on the internet. I suppose the idea is that they can charge a fee - as Shannon does - or can generate advertising dollars. I might just pop into the Register's office on one of my walks.

COMPAQ does have a substantial presence in Richmond - which is just outside of London.
