IMO that's why I strongly believe that some acquisitions are in the offing and that MD will have a lot to say when they begin to happen.

Well that's interesting. Dell has done a great job growing organically in its core business. But after reading over 800 posts the last few days and particularly noting edamo's remarks about MD doing a more convincing job of having to "prove" a negative in order to mollify the analysts and general investment community, I think a bolder stroke may be in order to take that quantum step that leaves others gasping for breath.

Of course, it rests somewhere between my personal fantasy and sheer lunacy, but in a single stroke, I could see Dell becoming "Master of the Internet" (not just selling boxes over the Internet to the tune of $18M per day) by buying CMGI for $350 - 400 per share in a stock for stock deal. Beyond its on-line commerce capabilities, the cross pollination of millions of sets of eyeballs into a DellNet community seems a likely way to provide revenue growth in entirely new areas for the next 10 years that is almost beyond imagination.

Would CMGI shareholders go for it? Well, it's a 40% - 60% premium over $250 per share. Would it be dilutive to current Dell shareholders? Absolutely. But if you have the burden of continuously proving a negative, you need a paradigm shift that does more than take the focus off the next few quarters - one that forces all others to look at the fruit the DellNet tree will produce over the next ten years.

Somebody humor me and dance with this.

And for those who wonder what I'm on...well, I get high on life. Don't even think of asking about my other fantasies...

It could happen, you know?
