Rocky,

CD-R next floppy?

The argument is more than speed. Its price, speed, and the average computer user's storage needs. Couple of things you may want to consider.

First, software or game distribution on CDs has nothing to do with the next floppy standard. They have nothing to do with storage -- only distribution. Thank heavens access/retrieval times for games and software are not as slow as writing to the CD-R. It never would have happened.

Second, CD-Rs (the sloooowwwwwwww onnnnnnnneeeesssss) are going for approximately $399. How long will it take them to get to external $100 and internal $50? Oh and I forgot. They need to reach those prices and be about how many times faster. Guess what? The current price just shot up to $1,000. Lets see, computer manufacturers trying to expand home computer market are coming out with coputer systems for $1,000 (w/o monitor). The price has a long ways to go.

Third, How much removable storage does Joe and Jane Consumer need? Some people have argued that 100 meg is to much. Then what about 650 meg?

No, Rocky I do not the see the vailidity of your argument.

Later,

John

P.S. I am off for a while. Be nice to each other.
