Yes, they still are. Packaging and handling techniques have come a long way to reduce breakage. The biggest problem for GaAs (if I remember correctly) was reliably and repeatably connecting to it (esp. the P side, I think). They must've fixed that problem. I haven't kept up with it much.

Dang, I put TQNT in my "hopper" at ~20 but never bought any. I also have ANAD @8, AMAT @36, and VLSI @8 in there. Wish I'd've bought them too. Oh well, at least there are a few dogs in there as well, and I did actually buy VTSS (but didn't take the full ride).
