The Ranch==massive server farms?
Anant Agrawal, vp engineering/chip group had an interview with IBD 11 May
Here are excerpts

<<Starting this month, Sun manufacturing partner Texas Instruments Inc. is expected to produce the first Ultrasparc III chips. Sun plans to ship systems based on the Ultrasparc III, running at 600 megahertz, to customers by the end of this year.

<< Sun's Ultrasparc III is being designed at a facility in Palo Alto, Calif., called ''The Ranch.'' It's a building full of more than 1,000 computers used to crunch data for Sun's chip designs. A total of 2,500 Ultrasparc chips in these machines are running 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They try to simulate the way the finished chip will work.
<<We have hundreds of engineers running many tools on hundreds of machines. What we have done is we have created a software layer on top of these machines. The entire server ranch appears to a designer like a single machine.
<<We are doing lots of chips. We're doing simulation on Ultrasparc (IV and) V
<<So the chips in the servers at The Ranch are your current-generation devices running simulations of your next-generation chips.>>
