American Eagle Outfitters Reports 110% Increase in Earnings to Record
$0.25 E.P.S. on 45.9% Sales Increase for the First Quarter 1999..

WARRENDALE, Pa., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. (Nasdaq: AEOS - news) today announced its consolidated financial results for the
quarter ended May 1, 1999.

Net sales for the quarter ended May 1, 1999, increased 45.9% to $145.4 million from $99.7 million for the quarter ended May 2, 1998. Comparable store sales
increased 27.5% when comparing the same thirteen week period. Net income for the quarter increased 110% to $12.2 million, or $0.25 per share on a diluted basis,
from net income of $5.8 million, or $0.12 per share on a diluted basis, last year. Diluted weighted average shares outstanding for the current quarter were 48.4
million compared to 47.4 million outstanding for the prior quarter.
