Sam and Thread, The year 2000 is shaping up to be a ripe market for those peddling CF and MMC. I see that the planets and stars and the moons are aligning and it is just a matter of time. I just hope that the end result is not a solar eclipse. These are the ongoing problems with technologies that will enable CF and that CF enables... digital cameras: 1) higher resolution cameras still too pricey and not competitive with high end non-professional SLR cameras. 2) end users still want hard copies of prints and printer technology and supplies (photographic paper, ink cartridges, affordable dye sub technology) still expensive. 3) potential for facilitation of web distribution (bitmap images in e-mail, free web hosting sites for photographic archives/scrapbooks) still widely unknown, undeveloped or underutilized. mp3: 1) copyrighting issues not resolved. 2) consumer devices still in development and pre-release. 3) SmartMedia got off to head start. 4) high speed internet connections (cable modems, affordable DSL) still not ready for prime time. 5) content not easily accessible due to #1. 6) too many people still have no idea what mp3 actually is. PDA: 1) applications 2) applications 3) applications 4) color monitors just emerging. 5) stereo output not available. 6) digicams and mp3 still nascent. 7) PC connectivity needs to be worked out. SmartPhones: 1) analog to digital conversions need to be more industry wide. 2) CDMA, TDMA, GSM standards still battling it out. 3) rush to small size and extended battery life may exclude "marriage" of cell phones with other digital assistants. All IMHO, Ausdauer ($31 and change)
