Hi folks. Got room for a newbie?

How about some pointers? I don't know how deep into real, flat-by-end-of-the-day daytrading I want to get into, but that is a possibility after I get my feet wet. In the meantime, I can sure see some short-term opportunities.

Some of the real-time Level II data seems very valuable, even if I'm not yet daytrading. But at around $300 a month, I have to plan on really trading to use it. So I have just a few newbie questions:

1) What is the most affordable source of Level-II type data? Are they all around $300?

2) Even if I'm not daytrading, that seems to be very valuable data. I'm kind of torn between thinking that I just do NOT need it at this point and thinking that such data can often mean a higher profit no matter how long I hold the stock, due to seeing Market-Maker momentum. Opinions please.

3) I saw at least one spammer here so I don't want to encourage more but what are some good books or sites to learn the basics?

So how to start? Just pick a decent real-time broker like Datek? Or jump in with someone who can give Level-II access right away?

Thanks in advance!
