Hello Frank,

When I was recently at NetWorld+Interop I happened to come across an interesting booth. It had the Ericsson name, due to a recent acquisition of a company called TouchWave. touchwave.com

These guys had an awesome little box that I've been looking for around the market ... the price isn't quite low enough yet, but the architecture is correct.

Basically what they made is a small-business PBX that had rear card-slots for a variety of telephony adapters, and then an ethernet connection on the front panel. It also includes full voice mail capabilities. The rear card-slots would accept a variety of trunk cards, and phone extension cards (pardon my total lack of proper names!) which allow someone to configure a PBX. BUT ...

The ethernet connection on the front was what made things very interesting ... they have full support for H.323 in the box, and are compatible with Microsoft's NetMeeting! So a traveling user can run a locally installed application on their laptop and connect to the PBX over the Intranet or Internet and "login" to the PBX. Once they do, they are able to completely remote control their "extension", including the ability to redirect their extension to their local copy of NetMeeting ... full gateway capabilities. I was also able to connect with NetMeeting and get a dial-tone and use their application to dial numbers.

It was really an impressive piece of equipment ... starting price for an operational unit was said to be ~$6000 ... not too bad. I was really impressed ...

This is the beginning of some very interesting capabilities and services ...

I'm wondering if you know of other companies that have anything like this on the market now?

Thanx!
