Broadcom tunneling vision.

Unfortunately they bought themselves a clue while they still could. So it does stand above the rest. Think of it as more of a hardwired communications company than a chip company.

Maverick -- lame but blocking IP DRAM-on-a-chip ethernet controllers.

Epigram -- blocking IP on simultaneous POTS / ethernet over same twisted pair. Works well, and is the only serious way to send video bitsteams from your home streaming video server (like Replay or TIVO) in the living room to lower cost decoder boxes in the bedroom.

GI -- don't be fooled. The SoC stuff from scratch will be good. Unfortunately, Cube won't be able to compete, because Broadcom knows how to make NTSC encoders and 1024 QAM modems well and cheap. Cube's countermove with the TV/Com doesn't match.
