Depends what you mean by "succeed".

X86 is a market worth billions. Intel is enjoying remarkable margins. Name one other market (which is worth billions) in which two company coexist and compete while margins are like Intel's.

If AMD is successful, Intel margins will deteriorate dramatically over time. If Intel is successful AMD will go out of business. Intel and AMD will not coexist and both enjoy high margins like Intel is today.
