Apratim: No Free PCs in the cards for Dell according to TR Reid of Dell.

....' Noting that Dell is vulnerable to falling prices, although perhaps less so than competitors, Milunovich said the PC industry in time may copy the model of the cell phone industry. Phones are virtually given to customers in exchange for contracts for service.

But a Dell spokesman disputed a story on the Web site news.com Wednesday that indicated Dell is seriously considering giving PCs away.

Spokesman T.R. Reid said the company routinely considers potential products or services to add profit, but free computers are not in the plans.


He also declined to comment on Wednesday's sell-off of Dell shares.

"We're confident in Wall Street's ability to fairly value us over time," Reid said....
