Two points

- This quarter will not be substantially better than the last. The new product releases have happened too late in the quarter to make a major change. A further hint was a recent sell-off of old computers and other hardware to employees. My guess is that the decision was made that the accompanying writeoff would just get buried in this quarter's results, making next quarter look that much better.

- Layoffs would be criminally stupid for Corel. Morale is just recovering, and if Corel is to grow out of its troubles, they have to improve performance, ergo management. The place has been Ottawa's junior leagues for too long now. Even if you could target the 'fat', so to speak, the turnover rate there is a chronic problem. Layoffs will simply encourage a wave of people to leave - the people Corel needs to keep. Corel does not do the 'little things' well, and a major reason for that is that good employees leave right about when they figure out what they are doing...
