Stacy, I agree. There is room for high capacity storage devices, like the 20 GB TeraStore device, which will not ship anytime soon, AND for
'here-now' portable smaller capacity storage like ZIP and JAZ. (and
evolving derivatives). By their own announcement, TeraStor admits that
they depend on THREE new technologies. When I worked on hard disk storage development (until three years ago) we had sort of a rule that ONE new technology at a time was risky enough. An article in the March
24. issue of Forbes says they hope to ship in a year. I boldly predict
they'll be a year late. Forbes meters their articles out on their web
site, so you might find it there. Title is 'Trillions of bytes'.
The TeraStore drive would have 20 times the capacity of today's JAZ
(on one surface). To say this device is competition for Iomega is
like saying a Mack truck competes with a Porsche. Both are superbly
suited for the purpose they were designed for.
