More Good News on KANA:
NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. (May 20) BUSINESS WIRE -May 20, 1999--Kanakaris Communications Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: KANA) announced it has signed contracts for the electronic distribution of non-public domain books which total over five times the amount currently hosted at any other web site. The contracts will bring the Kanakaris online total at www.NetBooks.com to over 2,200 in the near future, and the Company is in discussions with dozens of additional publishers.
"Kanakaris is first with a total technology and eCommerce package to provide securable, easily readable, accessible and affordable electronic delivery of books. Kanakaris will also be no. 1 in the number of copyrighted books we distribute electronically directly from our own web site, www.NetBooks.com," stated Jill Thomas, Director, Kanakaris Communications, Inc. and President of ION Systems, Inc.
"Today the universe of copyrighted books available from web distributors for true electronic delivery is very small and is poised for explosive growth in terms of both numbers of titles and revenue. We have broken the barriers to electronic publishing- most notably security, price and distribution modalities- and are currently in discussions with dozens of publishers," stated a Kanakaris spokesperson.
"We are very excited about this new way to read books. We were especially impressed with NetBooks' technology because it uses the standard computer hardware that almost everyone has access to. There's no need to buy an additional gadget in order to read onscreen. People can easily read onscreen without scrolling, and they can adjust the size of the text at any time," said James Walsh, President, Silver Lake Publishing.
Among the Partner Agreements signed by Kanakaris to date, are:
-- Hunter Publishing, Inc. (561-546-8040), with about 200 travel guides including titles on Latin America, the Caribbean and the United States. "By publishing through NetBooks, we'll reach an audience that likes to tap into the Internet instead of visiting a bookstore or library. Travel guides are particularly appropriate for electronic distribution," stated Michael Hunter, President, Hunter Publishing.
-- Silver Lake Publishing (323-663-3082), with 35 titles in consumer interest, small business, personal finance, and popular economics and public policy issues. "Working with NetBooks is good for us and our readers. Some people may not need a whole book about insurance, for example, but they do need to look up information in a particular chapter. By making our books available over NetBooks, these people can now access such information for a fee that is considerably less than the cost of a complete book," said James Walsh, President, Silver Lake Publishing."
-- Access Publishers Network (800-345-0096), a distributor of 1700 titles that helps small publishers distribute their books. They specialize in how-to books, spirituality, new age, business, sports, travel and cooking. "Since the text displayed over NetBooks can easily be changed, publishers can update the text at little cost to take advantage of new information or changes in public taste. I know of no other situation in which a publisher can test a book before committing to a full rollout," said John Lindberg, Acquisition Director, Access Publishers Network.
-- LionHearted Publishing (702-588-1388), acclaimed publisher of romance titles which has received more six-star reviews for its romance titles than another publisher of romance in the past three years, according to LionHearted.
-- DelStar Books, whose President, Mary Stanke, commented, "NetBooks.com and their secure system for delivering an entire book safely and quickly, is the start of a new wave that we see growing substantially in the future." DelStar's titles include, "Escape from Mass Murder," by Leila Sas, a Yugoslav refugee who went from soup kitchen to beauty queen.
-- Humanics Publishing (800-874-8844), featuring books focusing on Taioism, Self Help, Psychology, Philosophy, Metaphysical, Parent Development, Diet & Health, Business and Early Childhood Education.
-- New Concepts Publishing, which publishes 4 to 6 new titles each month. Founded in 1996 by Madris DePasture, the Company focuses on the romance genre, and is expanding into young adult, science fiction/fantasy, historical romance, westerns, and paranormal romance.
