Thread:

Morgan Stanley hosted a dinner last night with a couple of people form DELL. One item that pertained to Intel: someone asked the DELL reps what they thought about Intel's pricing strategy. The response from the DELL people was that they wanted Intel to get more aggressive. It would be their preference to see PIII prices right on top of PII prices.

It was pretty clear my guy at the meeting that DELL in a way blames Intel for their revenue misses of the last 2 quarters. DELL at present is unable to compete at the low end without sacrificing their margins (which they won't do). It didn't sound to me to be significant enough for DELL to start considering AMD, but a more probable event may be that Intel does not phase out older processors as quickly, but rather keeps them around at lower price points to give loyal customers (rad: DELL) a product at lower price points.
