Cascade's Frame Relay Switches Are Chosen For Nationwide
Data Network In Chile

WESTFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 1997--

Scalability, Performance and ATM Support on Frame Relay

Platform Were Deciding Factors in This Major International Win

VTR Larga Distancia, Chile's leading local and long distance communications company, has chosen
switches from Cascade Communications Corp to form its Frame Relay backbone network and will
install the switches in 14 cities in the coming months.

"We chose Cascade because its Frame Relay switches have the best performance and greatest
scalability in the market, enabling us to provide advanced competitive Frame Relay services to major
companies in Chile," said Renato Cerda, VTR's sales director. "Cascade's ability to scale networks
and its support of ATM on its Frame Relay platform also will allow us to easily grow the network in line
with the growing demands of our customers."

VTR will install a backbone of Cascade B-STDX 9000 and STDX 6000 Frame Relay multiservice
switches in eight major cities in Chile, connecting them to a main hub in Santiago, the nation's capital.
The switches will enable the company to offer private Frame Relay services to connect LAN and WAN
networks, voice over Frame Relay services, Internet access and an international Frame Relay
gateway. VTR plans to expand the Frame Relay network to six additional cities in Chile in the near
future.

"We are very pleased that VTR has chosen Cascade," said Kurt Trampedach, vice president of
international sales for Cascade Communications Corp. "The B-STDX 9000 and STDX 6000s are an
excellent choice for a growing network such as this one. As its network expands to more and more
cities throughout Chile, these platforms have the scalability to help VTR meet the ongoing needs of its
customers."

Magenta S.A., Cascade's distributor in Chile, installed and brought the network online for VTR.
Magenta also will provide maintenance for all Cascade equipment in the network to optimize network
operation and customer service.

Currently, VTR offers local, long distance and cellular voice services, data services and CATV. It is
owned by Luksic holding group and Southwestern Bell.
