Intuit Suspends QuickBooks for Mac Development

Intuit has suspended development of new versions of QuickBooks and QuickBooks Pro for Macintosh. A statement on the company's Website reads:

"Macintosh versions of QuickBooks 4.0 and QuickBooks Pro 4.0 were first released in 1995. Since then, we have found the market for new upgrades to QuickBooks for the Macintosh to be very small as more than 95% of QuickBooks customers use IBM-compatible PCs.

"Because of this, Intuit has made the difficult decision to not actively develop another upgrade at this time. We want to emphasize that QuickBooks for Macintosh customers are still very important to us and we still strongly believe that QuickBooks for Macintosh is the best small business accounting software on the Mac platform.

"For customers using QuickBooks, please understand that Intuit is NOT discontinuing support or "dropping" QuickBooks for the Macintosh.

€ We have increased our customer support program, including an improved QuickBooks Tax Table Update Service.

€ We have increased the number of technical support representatives.

"Also, QuickBooks Macintosh customers are eligible for our upgrade pricing if they wish to switch to the Windows version."
