Anyone: I can't find a site that tells the total margin debt outstanding, though I seem to remember seeing such figures reported. I can see how it would be impossible get a good estimate on individual stock margin positions and debt. Short sales are tied to a speicifc stock, whereas margin is fungible, if that's the word, and can be applied to all sorts of transactions whenever a debt balance is outstanding. Probably margin figures appear in Barrons but I don't have one with me.
