Interesting you mentioned flight sims, and RPGs. Considering the top selling games in their particular genre, the majority of them use GLIDE or software only. (i.e Diablo 2) I don't think you would compare the in game graphic quality like you do with photographs; if you do, then the games (RPG/SIMs/FPS) certainly have much more pressing problems.
