KLA-Tencor's Chairman Jon Tompkins Joins Cymer's Board of Directors
SAN DIEGO, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Cymer, Inc. (Nasdaq: CYMI - news), the world's leading supplier of illumination sources essential for deep ultraviolet (DUV) photolithography, today announced the addition of Jon D. Tompkins, 59, to its board of directors. Tompkins, chairman of San Jose, Calif.-based KLA-Tencor Corp. (Nasdaq: KLAC - news), was elected to the board today at Cymer's Annual Meeting of Stockholders.
Tompkins served as chief executive officer (CEO) of KLA-Tencor from April 1997 until June 1998 and has served as chairman of the board of KLA- Tencor from July 1998 to the present. He was president and CEO of Tencor Instruments from April 1991 until Tencor merged with KLA Instruments in April 1997 and chairman of the board from November 1993 until the merger. Tompkins previously served as president and CEO of Spectra-Physics, a leader in the commercial laser market. Tompkins is chairman of the board of SEMI/SEMATECH and currently sits on the board of directors for Electro Scientific Industries.

Tompkins holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Washington and a master's degree in business administration from Stanford University.
