Sun, someone posted a link here to a study/commentary on hoe the human eye responds to refresh rates above 60Hz. It explains how a movie can get away with 24fps while a computer game displayed on a monitor can't

Viewing distance is a factor but it has more to do with the differences in the media and the environment they are used in.

In short the cinema is played in a dark room on a highly reflective screen and (believe it or not) retina burn helps merge the frames. This does not occur with computer monitor especially when used in a brightly lit room.

Refresh method is also important. The 100% instantaneous refresh of the film frame leaves the line by line method for dead.

Lastly, motion blur on film mimic the way the human mind (such asit is) perceives movement in real life. On a computer screen there is no blur. If there is you need to see an optomotrist <g>.

The link was posted within the last 7 days so that's only 1400 posts to go thru. My batteries are low otherwise I'd have dug it up.

Regardless of the facts, today is a 3dfx investor's day to bask.
