The Sandinistas established a dictatorship inimical to US interests. The Carter Administration started by giving them aid, but they became progressively repressive and anti- American anyway, so even before Reagan the Carter people had become antagonistic. The situation fits perfectly with my observations, and when elections ensued, Violetta Chamorro won...Similarly, we worked with the Ba'athist regime in Iraq until it became clear that it threatened US strategic interests, and now we are trying to overthrow it...Unsuccessfully, I might add...
