TOYOTA MOTOR showed strong gains in the annual J.D. Power and
Associates initial quality survey, capturing top honors in six of
the 14 vehicle categories. However, the Lexus brand was knocked
from its top spot by Ford Motor Co.'s (F - news) Jaguar unit,
which had the fewest number of defects per 100 vehicles of any
nameplate, with 110. GENERAL MOTORS, meantime, was the only
automaker to dominate an entire segment, winning the top three
spots of the premium mid-size car category with the Chevrolet
Lumina, Buick LeSabre and Buick Century. (Dow Jones)
