If you are creating a product that may have sales in the tens of thousands, a $3000 component is selected with some care. I think that most of us are impressed that companies like Kodak, Bell & Howell, and Boeing would choose an item from Spectrums catalog. That's why so many of us invested money in Spectrum. I am not questioning Spectrum's technical skills, I am just pointing out that they are in a tough business niche. Some friends of mine who make high performance digital cameras use DSP chips to help process the digital data. They don't buy any packaged products like SSPI sells because they are too expensive, too big, and probably do a lot more than they need for their particular application. Some people can use a conventional PC to do their digital processing. Of course, SSPI is not targeting these people, but that is where being in a niche comes from. The Government loan could permit SSPI to expand their niche and perhaps that will be helpful. Is their new target niche devoid of competition right now? If so, why? If someone is already marketing in the new niche, should Spectrum consider a merger rather than trying to compete directly? Anyway, we will probably see some interesting times ahead.
