As I said, it is difficult to argue with someone's experience...but perhaps you will not argue with mine. Over the years I have from time to time attended conferences for conservative intellectuals at which a great many things are discussed, including foreign policy. I have even met Jeane Kirkpatrick, although not in a way that would have permitted extended conversation. The sort of people I hear, and sometimes get a chance to talk to, do things like edit the journals and advise the candidates, and sometimes work in government. Never do they talk in terms of establishing American hegemony, or any of the other nefarious things that seem to be suspected here. In fact, a number of them are isolationist, or at least loathe to intervene in most conflicts. They do not have the "world domination is good for business" mentality, or the "let's cut socialists down to size" mentality. They view America's position in the world with sobriety, and are afraid of over-extension... |
