BEIJING MAYOR URGES MORE FOREIGN INVESTMENT IN CHINA

BEIJING, May 21, 1999 (Asia Pulse via COMTEX) -- Beijing's Mayor Liu Qi said he hopes that foreigners will bring more funds into China,
especially for high-technology ventures.

Liu spoke at the opening of the Beijing High-technology Industrial Week, where he said that the business environment here is good for
everyone and that the Chinese capital will have more preferential policies to encourage the development of technology and that international
cooperation will be increased.

In the week to come there will be forums on the Y2K problem, trade with the West, and opening high-tech investment areas to foreign investors.
Leading enterprises from the United States, Britain, Japan, France and Russia, and more than 40 other countries have sent delegations or
representatives to participate in the event.

Chinese leaders will meet with these people and ministerial level officials will deliver reports throughout the week.
