Again, an echo is a reflection off of a fairly flat surface. To hear the echo one has to be at the right angle to catch the reflection, much the same way as a mirror works. It is possible to see your own reflection (echo) while not being able to see the reflection (echo) of a person a short distance away. You could not conclude from this that the person doesn't reflect in a mirror.

I suspect that a tape recording of a duck echo from the same location as your duck call, when your duck call echoes, will echo. Conversely, if you have someone use a duck call in the same location as the ducks that are not echoing, you should not hear an echo, if you stay at your location. Moving your position relative to the sound source affects whether you can hear an echo.

The real test is to take one of your ducks into an empty church, squeeze that sucker 'till it quacks, and see if it echoes. I bet that it does.
