Hi Ira,

< a new
RX -Cenestin -a synthetic estrogen which will compete with AHP's
Premarin.. DRMD did not receive bioequivelance to Premarin - - -it
lacked one compound found in natural estrogen (horse urine).
Instead the DRMD product is plant based. >

You probably know more about this stuff than I do, although I have some familiarity with it.

I see this as a pharma-conflict that will not be soon resolved. Entirely plant based estrogen- phytoestrogen- which is over the counter, has long been seen as an easy alternative to the RX only estrogen products, such as Premarin. It has also been seen as a safer and more natural product.

It is the isoflavone, a fundamental component in herbs and plants, which is considered to be the source of the phytoestrogen. I gather the DRMD product utilizes this- but not the delta 8,9 DHES factor which is utilized by Premarin. It appears that it is this DHES factor which is at the center of the efficacy argument, and not so much the phyto aspect.

In actuality, the phytoestrogens have not been proven to achieve the same results as the RX products, such as Premarin. As an example of one type of study, male to female transsexuals in transition have shown superior results in achieving female physical characteristics with the RX products than with the naturally occurring phytoestrogens. In other words, it would appear that the RX products are more like the estrogens produced by the female body than the phyto products. Since the RX products achieve better female characteristics- breast development, skin texture, overall lessening of testosterone effects, positive psychological and emotional change in the transsexual group, it is also likely that they also achieve better results in the genetic female group whose goal is replacement and those effects- osteoporosis prevention, etc.

Of course, the DRMD "generic" product could possibly prove better....at least it's stock price has done well recently..

Best,
Charliss

PS.....Staying up late tonight because sometimes it is when I get a whole bunch done that gets neglected during the day.....so, heck, as long as I'm up, might as well have the pc running.......;-)
