Heartsoft Announces Web Sentinel, Its NewInternet Filtering Technology

May 21, 1999 06:00 AM
TULSA, Okla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 1999--

Company Expands Its Secure Internet Browser Design; Sees Web Sentinel(R) as New Benchmark for Internet Safeguards

Heartsoft, Inc. HTSF reported today that the company had recently completed the Web Sentinel(R) -- a proprietary data suppression technology designed to safeguard children and young teens from accessing objectionable material on the Internet.

As a component of Heartsoft's Internet strategy announced on January 21, 1999, the Web Sentinel incorporates the latest in sophisticated software technologies and artificial intelligence to offer the company's planned secure Internet browser for children's unrivaled Internet safety and protection.

"The accuracy and flexibility of Web Sentinel's technology is truly unique. The technology incorporates heuristics, or artificial intelligence, to dynamically adjust the Web Sentinel's filtering and data suppression processes. Heartsoft's Web Sentinel literally learns from its users and then adapts the browser accordingly," said Benjamin Shell, Heartsoft Chief Executive Officer.

"Our approach was not necessarily to be the first to bring a secure browser to the marketplace, but rather to bring the best. Using the Web Sentinel technology, our secure Internet browser will provide the finest level of Internet security for children anywhere," said Shell.

The company believes that the proprietary technology within its Web Sentinel may help establish new benchmarks for Internet security and will consider plans to license portions of its proprietary technology.

In closing Shell said, "As a society, we have learned one very important lesson about the Information Age of late: information is power; and with that power comes an awesome responsibility. We believe our new software will be a valuable tool to help manage those resources much more effectively."

Heartsoft is continuing to enhance its original secure browser concept and specific details will be announced closer to the browser's actual release date. The new browser will be available in both school and home versions and will operate on both Microsoft Windows 95/98(R) and Apple AAPL iMac(R) and Macintosh(R) platforms.

Heartsoft's much anticipated secure browser offers parents and educators a secure and safe alternative to Microsoft's MSFT Internet Explorer and Netscape's AOL Navigator Internet browsers.

Heartsoft's support of Windows 98 significantly expands the company's ability to support hardware manufacturers such as Dell Computer Corp. DELL , Compaq Computer Corp. CPQ , and Hewlett-Packard HWP , which represent the most widely used platforms in schools and by parents.
